What was the importance of this in Ancient Rome? Answer: Food and architecture were obviously very important in Rome. Food is of course not limited to Rome, but some of it's meanings within the culture are uniquely Roman. To show off one's wealth, a patrician might throw a large dinner party. These parties could go on for long periods of time and were extremely different from modern day get together. Architecture was and still is something that defines Rome. When Ceasar came into power, which was a big turning point for the civilization, he began to build many large and beautiful buildings. This type of architecture obviously left a lasting impression, as our nation models many of its important structures after this sturdy and exquisite style of building. |

How did these things develop? Answer: Ancient roman food and architecture was greatly influenced by other culture. Though plebeians mainly relied on cereals, patricians ate foods from many exotic places. Some places Rome traded with were in the northern regions of Africa and a place called Ostia on the Tiber river. Ancient Roman architecture was influenced by Ancient Greece. Many innovations were made by this culture when it came to the art of building. One of which was creating the arch. |
