Impact of ancient ROMAN ARCHITECTURE
As many people know the Romans and Greeks impacted our modern world in a ton of ways. The Ancient Romans impacted us with their architecture . Most people know that the Romans had beautiful architecture and were skilled and clever builders which they got from the ancient Greeks when they conquered and took over Greece.
One well known way that they influenced us is in our modern day stadiums. The Romans built the Coliseum in 72 A.D. , it was known as the first major stadiums or amphitheaters to ever be built .
The Yankee stadium and the staples center are two examples of the influence of the Coliseum. One of their many similarities is in the ways they were built. They used the same techniques as the Ancient Romans when they built the Coliseum. As you see below we have provided a photo of both stadiums or amphitheaters that I have set up to the left.

As you can see there are a ton of similarities and differences between the two. The biggest similarity between the Coliseum and the Yankee Stadium is obviously the reasons they were originally built. They both were built for entertainment yet the reasons for being built were two different stories.
The Roman Coliseum was said to be built in 70-72 A.D. by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian Dynasty as a gift to the Romans. The Emperor’s son Titus opened the coliseum in 80 A.D. The coliseum was used for gladiator battles and wild animal fights all to entertain the people of Rome. Any Romans could go if they could afford it until the time of Julius Ceasar who let the poor participate in watching for free. You could become a gladiator in multiple ways. Some just were slaves forced to fight and some were prisoners sentenced to death. You could escape life as a gladiator if you survived battles for three years.
The Yankee Stadium was built on February 6th in 1921. The 10 acres of land was purchased from the estate of William Waldorf Astor for $675,000 . Just like The Romans we use our stadium for entertainment. The Yankee Stadium is a place where families can go and enjoy watching a nice game of baseball while bonding with each other. Unlike the Romans we don’t have Julius Ceasar so we have to pay for our entertainment whether we can afford it or not.
