The poor would eat cooked grains made into a porridge which only consisted of wheat, water and milk boiled into a creamy mix.
Romans had their first meal during early dawn. They referred to this meal as Ientaculum. This meal is what we refer to as breakfast. They usually had some sort of bread for breakfast. The rich would also include eggs, cheese, honey, milk, and fruit along with the bread. Before Rome being influenced by other cultures , they only had 3 meals. First is the Ientaculum , then a light lunch or what they would call prandium during around when the sun was around its Zenith. A Zenith is when a celestial object reaches its highest point. Followed by that would be a light supper, early in the evening which is referred to as Vasperna and dinner which was the main course called Coena.
